Porn star poses and pain d'epices

I was tending to the cauliflower puree when I heard "let's play porn star poses". I must confess this did prick up my ears. I can say with some certainty it's the first time that sentence has been uttered at New River Restaurant. I had my back to the group so I don't know who said it but I have my suspicions (Denise!).

Rikki Parker, a 'scrabble artist' had booked through LYDS. Another all female group of eight. They'd met at their NCT group four years ago. A very good humoured group; there was a little dancing at the end, before the good mothers departed for home and the bad for the night club.

Pain d'epices (spiced bread)
They had cheese soufflés, shin of beef and chocolate ganache tart. I also tried out my new obsession: pain d'epices. I normally avoid using French terms (yeah, like soufflé. Bite me!) but there is no English equivalent. Gingerbread this isn't. There's no ginger in it, instead are used cinnamon, nutmeg and star anise, coupled with lemon and orange zest. It's a slightly sticky enriched fruit bread/cake, denser than brioche and heady with spice and citrus oils and I'm trying to find a use for it. One of the group suggested a bread pudding. That might be genius. I'll let you know. Here's the recipe.

This is a new serving version of my chocolate ganache tart. Here it's basically a deconstructed Crunchie bar but with cream and orange.

But what? Excuse me? Oh, you want to know more about the porn star poses, yeah?

It was really only a flavour of silly selfie although Denise did take it to the next level with Jackie. Simple manners prevents me from divulging more. Here are some moments from the evening. You can decide if they're pornstar or not.

Rikki getting all Gaga.

Denise making demands on the dancefloor

Jackie's laughing at Denise's suggestion. There was a lot of that - laughing.
